Arrival at “Julius Nyerere International Airport” in Dar-es-Salaam.
Welcome by our guides and assistance with immigration and customs formalities.
Transfer by bus / taxi to the beach hotel in Bagamoyo. (appr. 90 min.)
Check-in at the hotel and lunch onshore the Indian Ocean.
Dinner: Dinner on the beach and then live African music.

Day 2, Sunday
Sightseeing or relaxing and swimming in the Indian Ocean.
Bagamoyo is suggested by the Tanzanian government as a new world cultural heritage site, to be called “East African slave and trade route”.
Other options are: church attendance, visit the “Bagamoyo Museum of the History of Slavery”, visit the “Kaole Ruins” from the 13th to the 16th centuries showing the history of the Muslim population at the Swaheli coast ,
Visiting markets, the “Tanzanian College of Art”, Boat trips along the coast of the Indian Ocean to coral reefs and mangrove swamps.

Day 3, Monday
Tours and activities in Bagamayo (see Sunday). Alternatively, a day trip to Dar-es-Salaam, the capital and the economic center of Tanzania.
Day 4, Tuesday
Transfer by bus to the TAZARA train station in Dar-es-Salaam.
Accommodation is in cabins of the so-called ‘1. Class” with a maximum of 4 people of our tour group. The ride in the TAZARA (Tanzania Zambia Railway) takes about 24 hours. We provide drinks, clean food and snacks, as well as clean sheets.
You will sleep in the train compartment. We arrange a vigil.
In the event that all or part of the schedule fails, we have prepared alternative arrangements (travel by plane or bus).
Accommodation is in cabins of the so-called ‘1. Class” with a maximum of 4 people of our tour group. The ride in the TAZARA (Tanzania Zambia Railway) takes about 24 hours. We provide drinks, clean food and snacks, as well as clean sheets.

Day 5, Wednesday
In the morning arrival in Mbeya, the main commercial center of the southern highlands of Tanzania. Transfer to the hotel followed by lunch. You are familiarized with your 4×4 and the equipment , Sightseeing and activities in and around Mbeya.
Day 6, Thursday
We spend the day with activities in and around Mbeya.
For example: visit of coffee and tea plantations with walks, visit of African villages and markets, excursion to Ngozi Crater Lake and the Kiwira natural bridge, tour of the city of Tukuyu with the boma (government buildings from the German colonial period), visits of social institutions and projects.

Day 7, Friday
Trip to the Zambian border at Tunduma / Nakakonde.
Short detour to the “Mbozi Meteorite”, Crossing the border to Zambia.
We travel on the so-called “Great North Road” to Isoka, where we turn into road D 18 and proceed to Kasama passing several African villages. This part of Zambia is one of the most sparsely populated areas in Zambia.” Miombo woodlands”shape the landscape.
Overnight camping will be at the “Chisimba Falls”.
Short detour to the “Mbozi Meteorite”, Crossing the border to Zambia.

We maintain our camp at Chisimba and move from here for excursions to Kasama and the surrounding countryside. Visits to social institutions (Clinics, schools, Native homes, Traditional Healers, etc.) can be arranged.
Day 9, Sunday
During the morning , we drive on the “Old Great North Road” to Mpika. At “Lettow Vorbeck Memorial” we stop for a coffee break. After lunch in Mpika and a stop to restock our supplies we continue on the Great North Road to the south.
We take the route through the “Lavushi Manda National Park” to “Shoe Bill Camp” at the “Benguela swamps”. Here we will set up our camp.
Perhaps as an alternative, we may spend the night in the village Nakapalayo where we can stay in the huts of the villagers and participate in village life.

Day 10, Monday
We spend the day at the Benguela marshes viewing wildlife . Local fishermen will take us with their canoes to interesting sites on the Lukulu River.
Alternatively you can take the 4 x4 on bush tracks and take a trip to the “Livingstone Memorial” in near Chipundu village.

Day 11, Tuesday
After breakfast we will drive on the bush track to “Lake Waka Waka” where we meet for a picnic.
After visiting the “Nsalu Caves” we drive back to Mpika on the Great North Road (about 150 km) and further to the Kapishya Hot Springs, where we spend the night. Here you can take a hot bath in the natural pools provided by the hot springs.

Day 12, Wednesday
On this day we remain at Kapishya Hotsprings . There are possibilities for sightseeing and hiking (Shiwa Ngandu, schools, hospitals, traditional healers, etc.).
During this time we also will prepare our equipment and vehicles for the journey to the Luangwa valley.

Day 13, Thursday
Today we have to get up early and make our way into the Luangwa Valley. The difficult part of the journey will be the “descent” on a “Bush track ” down to the valley and the two river crossings.
We spend the night at a campsite at the Luangwa River near Mfuwe.

We will spend the day with game viewing in the Luangwa National Park.
At the Luangwa River we will have numerous wildlife observation opportunities.

Day 15, Saturday
We leave the Luangwa National Park and drive on better roads via Chipata to Lundazi or we take a more difficult direct route through the Luangwa Valley. We will stay in the Lundazi Castle Hotel (a very basic hotel).
Day 16, Sunday
Today, we will cross the border into Malawi. Since it is a small border post, the formalities should not take too long. We will drive through the “Vipha Mountains” with its numerous granite domes. Via Mzuzu, with its colourful market, we´ll head to Nkhata Bay at Lake Malawi. South of the town Chintheche we´ll stay for two nights at one of the most beautiful beaches of the lake.
Day 17, Monday
We have a rest day at Lake Malawi. If the Ilala (the only ferry and cargo ship on Lake Malawi) is operational again, we possibly take a ride.
Anyone interested can rent diving equipment at a diving school and participate in diving excursions with experienced guides. Lake Malawi is known for its variety of fish and is a popular destination for divers.

Day 18, Tuesday
Today we travel quite comfortably on a good road to the south. We spend our extensive lunch break at ”Bua Camp” in the “Nkhotakota Wildlife Reserve” . There are plenty possibilities for game viewing. During the night we are accommodated in typical local rondavals at a lodge south of Nkhotakota. For much of the 19th century, Nkhotkota was the busiest slave-trading centre on Lake Malawi, presided over by the legendary “Jumbe Dynasty” , and it is still described as the largest traditional market village in sub-equatorial Africa.

This day we are still at the shores of Lake Malawi. Canoe trips and a variety of excursions will be offered. One of the best traditional healers of Malawi lives in the area.
Day 20, Thursday
A short and leisurely drive takes us to “Mua Mission” with the “Chamare Museum” and the “Kunguni Centre of Culture and Art”. Here we will be accomodated for the night.
Day 21, Friday
On our last trip we are heading via Dedza (the highest city of Malawi) to Lilongwe. In Dedza we visit the pottery which is known to produce high standard traditional and modern design objects.
In the evening: Candle Light Dinner and local disco in Lilongwe.

Day 22, Saturday
After breakfast there is once again the opportunity to shop at a traditional local market or in a modern shopping center.
In the afternoon we’ll take you by bus or taxi to the Kamuzu Airport for your flight back home.

Tired from the long flight you will arrive in your home country. It will still take a long time until all the impressions and experiences of the trip are “digested” and all the photos and films are sorted out.

We drive through the Malawian highlands via Kasungu, Mzuzu and Rumphi to the northern part of Lake Malawi in the region Chilumba.

We spend the day in Chilumba on Lake Malawi and will visit the “Livingstonia Mission” and “Matchewe Falls” at the edge of the “Nyika Plateau National Park”.
Day 25, Tuesday
We’ll have a short drive to cross the border at Kasumulu / Songwe to Tanzania. Then we continue to Matema Mission on the Tanzanian side of Lake Malawi, (Lake Nyasa as itis called here) . We will spend the night at the Mission.
Day 26, Wednesday
Via Tukuma we travel to Mbeya in the western highlands of Tanzania. We are accommodated in a good hotel.
Day 27, Thursday
Morning departure by air from Mbeya to Dar-es-Salaam. Bus transfer to a beach hotel outside town. Relax by the pool or beach.
Day 28, Friday
Last full day in Dar-es-Salaam with activities as desired. (relax on the beach, swimming in the Indian ocean, city tours, visiting the fish market or other markets, boat trips to smaller tropical islands, etc.)
Day 29, Saturday
Transfer to Julius Nyerere International Airport and flight home.
Day 30, Sunday
Arrival at your home town.
